Making jewelry is not my strong suit by any means. I love making components, but I need more practice putting them all together.
Here’s a photo of the components I designed for my Frida Kahlo necklace. I wanted something to go with the focal I had made, and thought it would be fun to make the rest of the beads. So after she was done, I pulled the lime green, black and coral from the focal, and designed a few more beads.
I knew that I didn’t want all the beads to be front and center, so I made a large assortment of long black tube beads. With their dark color, I thought they might recede and let some of the other beads “shine”. I pulled the coral out with little flower buttons and added a couple of lime green donut shaped beads for excitement.
My next installment will show you what I came up with. By stalling, I can show you what I did both my first time, and then how I took it apart and reworked it. You see, I made it up, and after wearing it, am not really thrilled with my design. So now I have a couple of weeks to figure out what I want to do. Cross your fingers for me and think positive thoughts. I need all the help I can get.

I was lucky to be at a bead camp this past weekend with jewelry designer Lisa Liddy, who gave me some ideas on how to achieve what I wanted to do.
So I’ll be writing my next post soon.
Thanks for your kind words,
Marcy
