I love the name of this blog – Watch Me Create – but I don’t create as much as I procrastinate. I’ve been putting off writing this entry of the blog for about two weeks, for example. I have many ways to procrastinate and I thought you might like to hear about my top 5 ways to put things off:
1. Forums. Oh, if I could only have all the time back I have spent (wasted?) on various forums. It’s the work-alone-at-home equivalent of standing around by the watercooler. Some of them are lampworking oriented so I can kind of equate that to meetings with my coworkers. Sort of. www.wetcanvas.com, www.lampworketc.com and www.torchbugs.com are just three of my favorites right now. I also belong to a dachshund newsgroup type forum and a weight loss forum www.sparkpeople.com which has not caused me to lose any weight but has given me lots of new exercises to not do.
2. Computer Games. Again, if I could have this time back, I would never die. I love playing quick, casual games on www.pogo.com and I have a membership to www.realarcade.com where I can download longer, more involved games. I particularly like the hidden object games, although I am not sure why. I also have every gaming console known to man. I am currently stuck on Little Big Planet for the Playstation 3 and I do a couple Nintendo DS Sudoku games every night before I go to sleep. I have to say that computer games are great places to pick up color combinations for beads.
3. Online Shopping. I love Etsy and Artfire. I love doing random searches and seeing what comes up – like “rainbow” or “dachshund” or “sprinkles”. Try it! It’s so much fun. I recently lost my wedding ring (I know, I know, it was really stupid) so now I occasionally window shop for new rings. Ever the romantic, I fancy the ones at Costco.
4. Real Estate. I search Trulia nearly every day for houses in Seattle. I live in San Jose, CA. If we ever move, it will be to Seattle so I like to have a steady stream of possibilities on hand. I also keep a close eye on the Zillow estimate on our house. It used to be fun to keep track of the value of our home but, these days, not so much.
5. TV. No time-wasting list would be complete without it, right? I have gotten hooked on a new show called “Lie to Me” recently. Reality TV is always a good time waster. I currently like anything with celebrities in rehab.
I’m sure there are more things I could add to the list but that’s a good start for now. What fun things do you do to put off what you should be doing?
Oh, and here’s the obligatory bead photo, just in case …

YAY! A partner in crime! Feel free to use the title. I had so much material for this particular topic that I could probably start an actual “Watch Me Procrastinate” blog.

Oh dear Lori! I know EXACTLY where you are coming from. Some of my distractions are a bit different but they are all there. What is it with looking at houses for sale? I’m not thinking of moving but you never know what might pop up…
These are the reasons my Etsy shop is dwindling and Artfire is standing still — why are these other things more fun??
Honestly I WAS looking for bead inspiration this morning and ended up watching this – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S68aK46G2xc (I’m sure you need to as well ;o) ) And now somehow I’ve ended up at this blog and STILL not putting things into my Etsy!!

I’m procrastinating again right now! I should be out making beads. I have, in fact, announced to my entire family that I am going out to make beads right now. And yet…here I sit.
Deb, just shoot me an email and I will make one for you! lorijp@pacbell.net
