After almost 11 months, I finally made time to give that a try. ( In all reality it cost $20.00 in child care, and 4 hours of time…) No, I still have not finished this piece. It is a good start. The crystal above needs to be ground down and polished. A HUGE bead was made in the flame and ground down on the flat lap. Then, I re-introduced the piece into the flame, and applied the Goddess like soul gesture, with the hand made schott crystal.
The figure is made with a super soft pale yellow. I have made a little over 1000 figures in glass, and very few of them are made with the softer opaque colors. They lose shape easier than the transparent stiffer colors. So, I am VERY proud to be able to pull off a relief style figure with that color.
In reality, I want this piece to be 30? tall, on a gigantic amethyst pedestal. Now, if I live long enough, that may happen. ![]()
Art is a life time commitment. I drew this piece a year ago, it is 3? tall, and it is still unfinished. Not because I didn’t I have the time, or the skill. The mood has got to be right. You can not sit down and make a work of art (for the sake of art; not function) if your mind is somewhere else. I guess my biggest excuse would be, I am interrupted all of the time. Interrupted by my children, my side jobs, my imagination, financial obligations, etc… I am sure all artist’s would relate. I am not so sure a non-artist would understand.
Artists say to me, “it is hard to find the tools, and the time”…Non-Artist types say. “Why don’t you just do it?”
I say, SOMEBODY BUY ME A FACILITY TO MAKE HUGE SCULPTURES AND PAY ALL MY BILLS FOR ME!!!!
Art really is a life time commitment.
Sheila Morley decided to major in Fine art, and have a career in it in 1991/1992. After many years of working as an Auto cad technician, and in project management, to pay the bills, and build a studio; she began selling her art work on the INTERNET at her website in 2006.

I completely agree. That has been my difficulty as I start into more ’serious’ lampworking….it seems I never have enough tools or supplies or the money to buy the ones I need for the ideas in my head…and then when I do have what I need, my kids, my husband, my ‘other job’ all need me. I keep wishing for days of completely uninterrupted time to just create all day long! Wouldn’t that be nice?
