Nancy Sells Puffer First Memory Wire

It’s hard to believe I’ve been making jewelry over seven years now! In some ways, I still feel like such a newbie! My jewelry/beadmaking life began years ago when a good friend told me about a memory wire bracelet she had purchased at our local farmer’s market. She was sure we could figure out how to make some ourselves. Once I saw it I agreed and off to our local bead store we ran! That’s it in the first picture.

I was hooked!! One thing led to another and soon I was doing home parties, teaching others how to make memory wire bracelets as well as a variety of other jewelry.  Around the same time another friend introduced me to the world of lampwork beads on eBay. I loved them and after a few months of buying those beautiful beads I knew I needed to find out how to make them!

And you know a lot of the story from there on. It’s been a wonderful journey that has given me incredible joy! So… I’ve been trying to come up with a new bracelet design for the St. James Court Art Show I’m doing the first weekend in October and have been coming up empty. I wanted to find a design that was less expensive than my other bracelets ~ I needed a good price point!

I was ordering some flexible bugle beads from Elements by Yvonne to use in a new earring style when I saw a picture that made my day. It was a great bracelet incorporating those beads and it was on memory wire. BINGO! Perfect!!

So now my head is spinning with possibilities and I need to stop writing about them and get back to making them! See you later!!

Mixing It Up! Preparing for an Art Show.

Nancy Sells Glass Pendants

It’s that time of year again… I’m preparing for the St. James Court Art Show in Louisville. And just like last year, I’m trying to figure out what will sell well. Oh for a crystal ball that could tell me exactly what I need to bring!

Since I haven’t found a working crystal ball yet, I’m going to try a mixture of  big pieces and smaller price points. The economy isn’t quite as bad as it was last year but I have a feeling it will still have an effect on my sales. So… I’ve been busy making pendants and earrings.

As much as I love making my big pieces, in reality it’s the smaller items that are my bread and butter. So around this time of year, I try to figure out some new styles to add to my mix.  I’ve been having fun making little puffy flower pendants lately. And just the other day I was reminded of another flower style that I’m going to explore over the next few weeks, mixing it up a  little to make it my own.

So I’m feeling pretty good about where I am this year. I’m being challenged to come up with new designs which is always a great way to move yourself forward.  And who knows,  maybe I’ll even sell some of my big pieces! A girl can always dream…

Post Gathering “To Do” List

August 4, 2009 - by nancysellsglass

Jan Burrows and Libby Leuchtman at ISGB Open Torch

A friend of mine recently equated the Gathering with Christmas; you plan and look forward to it all year, base the calendar around it, get downright giddy about getting there, and then seeing so much “family” at once goes by like a blur. All of a sudden it’s over you’re back at home trying to remember all the cool stuff that happened.

I  come back with so many ideas swirling around in my head that when I sit down at my torch I don’t know where to begin. This year is no different! I want to play with off mandrel pendants after watching Libby Leuchtman’s demo. She makes flowers ala Jen Geldard. I want to try something different and will show you once I figure out what that is…

I got a ton of response to my nugget shaped hollow necklace. Every year I try to make new pieces in Check Glass colors to help promote John and Jan’s great glass colors. This year I played around with bright colors and misshaping my hollows. I’m pleased with how they turned out and the reaction they got. Time to make more before St. James Court Art Show in October.

And finally, I also saw a wonderful necklace on someone at the Bead Bazaar that has me pulling out my greens and browns!  It was a longer necklace that sported different sized, shaped and designed beads all in the same shades of chartreuse and brown.  I am SO on that one my friends!

I think that gives me a good start on some new ideas. Why don’t you begin saving your pennies so you can join me in Rochester, NY next year. I guarantee you’ll come back with tons of inspiration!
